Introduction
Before AESOP became a standalone company, its journey began over a decade ago at the Taipei Medical University, where it started as a long-term research project led by Professor Yu-Chuan Li, who had the vision of making medication safer. Along with his team, their efforts laid the foundations for what would later become AESOP. Step by step, they expanded its data and analytical capabilities through years of research and collaboration.

In those early days, computing power was a far cry from what it is today. When Li and his team first tried to figure out how diseases and medications interact, they compiled 12 years of health insurance data, including 7,000 diseases and 1,400 medications listed in the ICD-9-CM. They even leveraged resources from the National Center for High-Performance Computing. However, they were unexpectedly told that processing such a massive dataset would take over 100 years!

To address this tough situation, they came up with a more workable plan: instead of attempting to analyze everything at once, they first conducted individual analyses within each dimension, exploring the relationships between diseases and applying the same approach to the medications dimension. They then combined these insights, eventually extending their cross-analysis to link diseases with medications.

What began as academic research gradually evolved into clinical application, unlocking new challenges along the way.

The idealistic researchers soon realized that no matter how groundbreaking their work was, it wouldn't truly matter unless it could be scaled into feasible products. Without this step, they would not be able to translate their efforts into real-world clinical practice and help doctors solve problems. They also encountered a more difficult issue: the overwhelming complexity of electronic health systems, which presented challenges far beyond what they had imagined.

To bridge the gap, Li assembled an entrepreneurial team and invited Dr. An-Jim Long and Dr. Jeremiah Scholl to help transform their work into practical solutions that could genuinely improve healthcare for all.

Since AESOP officially spun off in 2019, it has rapidly expanded its medical records database. It has integrated not only Taiwan’s National Health Insurance data but also vast datasets from U.S. Medicare, the Mayo Clinic, and DARTNet. Soon, AESOP had accumulated over 3.2 billion medical records, creating a rich pool of information that set the stage for groundbreaking developments.

With advancements in technology, AESOP AI can now sift through these records, extracting over 5 million clinical associations. The result is a powerful clinical deep reasoning network—an AI tool capable of supporting doctors with diagnostics, medication guidance, procedures, lab tests, and free-text analysis, tailored to diverse clinical scenarios. Moreover, it can also present clear and transparent reasoning logic, which has significantly enhanced user trust in the product, steadily building its reputation.

Today, as AI continues to flourish with potential, AESOP remains committed to using technology to improve patient safety. By offering flexible solutions that enhance the meaningful use of medical AI in clinical decision-making, AESOP is bringing healthcare closer to a vision where data flows seamlessly and effectively, improving the quality of clinical practice for physicians.
